FAQs

Welcome to the College of Practical Homeopathy’s FAQ section! Here you can find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about our college and homeopathy in general.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NATUROPATHY AND HOMEOPATHY?

Naturopathy basically refers to any method of treatment that depends on lifestyle and diet modifications to tackle a particular disease or disorder. Naturopaths study a variety of alternative healing methods, including homeopathy, but receive what amounts to a basic training in these modalities. Homeopaths specialise in homeopathic medicine, which is a complete medical system in its own right. A Homeopath will prescribe a similar medicine to treat the root of the disease and ultimately cure the ailment naturally from within outward. Both Homeopathy and Naturopathy are regulated health professions in their own right.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE FOR EACH MODULE?

You should aim to complete 1 module a month.

IS THE FOUNDATION CERTIFIED TRANSFERABLE TO OTHER COLLEGES?

Not sure as every college will have it’s own joining criteria.

CAN I SIGN UP ONE YEAR AT A TIME, COMMITTING TO THE PAYMENT OF THE FIRST YEAR BEFORE DECIDING ABOUT THE NEXT STAGES?

Yes you can, however please know that in order to maintain continuity and your registration as a student, you must enrol on to the next level within 6 months of completing the previous level. Otherwise you will have to re-register and retake the entire course again.

IS THERE AN ASSESSMENT AFTER EACH MODULE?

Yes, all progression, assessment and advancement is done through assessments; these are a combination of module assignments, case studies, Materia media work, anatomy and physiology where needed and discussion with your tutor. This gives you a fully immersive and integrative learning experience.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU HAVE SESSIONS WITH YOUR PERSONAL TUTOR AND WHAT HAPPENS IN THESE SESSIONS?

You have a personal tuition session with your dedicated tutor after every module. Your assignments are returned to you beforehand. These sessions are tailor made to cover any knowledge gaps, specific learning points, questions you may have, methods of applying the homeopathic skills and any cases you may have taken that you wish to discuss. This is very much student led and personalised to your individual learning needs.

HOW OFTEN DO I GET TO FACE TO FACE CASES AT THE STUDENT CLINIC?

As often as you wish and as soon as you are ready.

FROM WHEN CAN YOU OBSERVE THE STUDENT CLINIC?

From the very start of joining. You can observe fellow students take cases and you will develop observational skills. You will sit in on the case analysis and prescription discussions and learn about remedy selection, justification, any additional herbal, nutritional or supplementation that may be needed. This will develop your confidence and competence of running your own successful practice.

And finally, this will fuel your desire to continue learning, taking your own cases and applying the skills and knowledge you gain.

HOW OFTEN ARE THE WEBINARS AND ZOOM CLINICS?

The virtual clinics are run every 2 weeks on a Saturday. The webinars run approximately once a month, depending on the need of subject matter.

ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL COSTS OUTSIDE OF THE FEE?

Only to purchase the recommended course text of Materia Media, Repertory, Methods in Homeopathic Prescribing. We do give you a recommended booklist at each level and this is recommended, but not mandatory. You will find yourself wanting to read about certain topics that you wish to explore as you develop and that is a very individual journey.

There is a very basic cost of attending personal student clinics at the London clinic to pay for the tuition, remedies, etc.

IS THERE ANY SUPPORT TO HELP YOU SET UP YOUR PRACTISE ONCE QUALIFIED?

Yes; we start practitioner development from the Diploma level onwards to help you develop a successful personal practice. In addition to that, you will get a wealth of support from fellow students and tutors who are running their own successful practices.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FINDING THE CASES FOR THE STUDENT CLINIC?

Many students invite their own patients to the student clinic and we also have direct enquiries from our website where patients want to be treated by a student homeopath.

For the virtual clinics, students present their own cases and discuss their prescriptions, etc… This way, people who do not yet have their own patients can learn how to take a case, analyse and prescribe.

IS THERE A READING LIST, OUTSIDE OF COURSE MATERIALS?

Yes, we have a comprehensive recommended reading list as well as online resources to further enhance and enrich the industry leading course materials.

WHO RECOGNISES THE COLLEGE OF PRACTICAL HOMEOPATHY?

The CPH graduates are recognised by all the professional bodies representing homeopaths. We strongly encourage our students to belong to a professional body, initially as student members and then on graduation as full members of the body of their choice.

ARE YOU CONSIDERING TAKING THE CPH TO DEGREE STATUS?

There is no intention for the profession to become degree entry, so treat with caution any claims that it will. The evidence is that degree level courses are too academic and detract from the vocational nature of becoming a working homeopath resulting in a high dropout rate. The CPH provides a professional vocational training and is designed for students who want to be competent and confident to run their own successful practices.

I WANT TO GET A DEGREE AND BECOME A HOMEOPATH, HOW DO I DO THIS?

Our recommendation is to learn how to be a homeopath first. Increasingly students who have started degree courses are transferring to The CPH as they realise that a degree will not help in developing them as practitioners and they have found it impossible to translate their academic experience into real life.

The best and most cost effective option is to complete our vocational course and then do a part-time one year course as you will then have practical experience to help put the academic research based study into context and perspective.

DO STUDENTS RECEIVE WRITTEN COURSE MATERIALS?

The CPH prides itself on providing the best course material of any homeopathic course provider across the World, as this allows our students to concentrate on developing the skills necessary to become competent and confident practitioners.

This is done electronically  and gives them a complete set of accessible reference material that will support them throughout their working lives. All the evidence shows that students who have to take notes only get about 3 – 7% of the information and some of that is often misunderstood.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED DURING THE COURSE?

The CPH operates a process of continual assessment. The bulk of this is through casework, and all our graduate cases are externally marked.

Students also develop their own materia medica and therapeutics manuals. This means that the standard of our students’ work is second to none.

ARE THERE ANY EXAMS WITHIN YOUR COURSES?

No, The CPH uses continuous assessment and students have to meet these requirements before they can progress onto the next module/level.

I'M UNHAPPY WITH MY CURRENT COURSE, IS IT POSSIBLE TO TRANSFER TO THE CPH?

Unfortunately, some students make their decisions about a course provider based primarily on factors such as location and cost rather than the quality of the course (See our information sheet on ‘Choosing a homeopathic Course’ for more information on this important topic). This can be an expensive mistake and often leads to students dropping out and feeling they have failed, or struggling on and then being unable to practice on graduation.
